在環(huán)刀內(nèi)涂抹凡士林。將土樣從環(huán)刀中推出，并立即稱重。置試樣于多孔板上，放入儀器，安好稱重，記下初讀數(shù)，在200C恒溫（或15~300C溫度下）進(jìn)行收縮試驗(yàn)。（可配用萬分之的1kg天平）。然后依據(jù)土工試驗(yàn)規(guī)程（SDS.01-79)操作至量表讀數(shù)基本不變時(shí)為止。再將土樣在100~1050C溫度下烘至恒重，并稱土重。用量表從橫豎兩個(gè)互相垂直四個(gè)位置各測(cè)次（如圖二）然后計(jì)算。使用完畢后，應(yīng)將儀器擦拭干凈，涂以薄層油脂以防生銹。
